Mouse Poem (a repost)

ako'y may alaga
puro mga daga
sila'y mahahaba
'di nga lang matataba

bumili ako ng dalawa
nadagdagan ng anim pa
bago lang kasi nanganak
ang mga daga kong manyak

sabi pa ng aking mami
mga daga mo'y mapapangahi
ba't yan pa ang iyong napili
pwede naman ang doggie

sabi ko naman kay mami
mahal kasi ang doggie
buti na rin 'tong mousy
kasi mabilis lang dumami

'to namang si lola
suportib sa aking mga daga
siya ang nag-alaga
nung ako ay nawala

ang aking dalawang alaga
naging walong daga
bukas o samakalawa
baka sila'y madagdagan pa

Note to God (a repost)

Dear God,

I know I am not in the right place to demand something from you but if you're going to let me have another girlfriend, could it be please someone like her? You see I have this thing for 'chinitas' and they really turn me on--in a lot of ways than you can think of.(Haha!)

I promise, if let you me meet someone like her, I'll be a very good boy. I'll do my own laundry now. I'll clean my room every week. I'll even clean the house and wash my neighbor's car. I'll do anything you ask--at least anything I think that you ask of me.

Please e-mail back, ASAP. I'll be waiting.

/*I made this post two years ago. It's funny how nothing's changed about how I feel for her. lol!*/

From A Korean's View

We already know how our country is in terms of natural resources. However, we sometimes forget to appreciate what we have. We forget that we are living in such a beautiful country. I am guilty of that too. Last night while I was surfing through KBS a Visayan song in the background caught my attention. It was from a show called Backpack Travels narrated by a Korean, who is also the cameraman. It's basically a video diary of some sorts by a traveler. They were doing a feature on a couple of places here in the Philippines, particularly Cagayan de Oro and Camiguin.

Cagayan de Oro is mainly famous for its river rapids which is ideal for kayaking. I've watched it being featured on local travel shows many times but this was the first time I get to catch it on a foreign channel. The show also showcased our cultural link with religion as it covered the fiesta celebration during that time. There was also a moment in the show when the host got on a jeepney--a common mode of transportation in the country. He appreciated how the people inside the jeepney make room for other passengers without complaining a single bit. It's flattering when people get to appreciate these small things.

Next stop was the island of Camiguin. It is said to be the 'the island born of fire'. Some internet travel ads dub it as the Hawaii in Asia. The island is small enough to be explored in just two hours.

The show went to the famous sunken cemetery first. It was the first time I learned of its origins. Apparently, the cemetery was located in the mountains and got washed up during the volcanic eruption in the Spanish era. It saddening to find out that all but one of the tombstones were gone. I also found out that the cemetery is best visited during sunset because of its picturesque view.

They also went to the white island of Camiguin. It is a very small mass of land which is all white sand. The island changes landscape four times a year depending upon the oceanic currents.

The last part of the show was about life in the province. The narrator got his first taste of fresh buko juice. It was mostly about simple living. It reminded me of the place where I grew up, it almost makes me want to go home.

Because of the show, I ended up sleeping at 3 o'clock in the morning. It was kind of tiring but it was worth it. I'm certainly listing the White Island in my itinerary after I graduate. Haha!

Classical Studying

Some students find it difficult to maintain focus in studying their lessons. Unfortunately, I am one of those students. My main problem is that, after reading 3-5 pages of notes, I get sleepy almost immediately. I have solicited a couple of suggestions but none of them worked for me.

I have also tried drinking coffee to keep me awake but all it does make me jumpy and shaky--which makes it harder to concentrate even more. What's worse is that it usually takes more than 12 hours, in my case, for the effects to wear off. Students should not drink coffee when they are studying, at least that's my opinion.

My recommendation instead is listening to music--classical music. It worked wonders for me and it do the same for you too, I hope. Haha! Although I have not found a scientific study to explain this technique of studying, researches have enumerated other benefits derived from listening to pieces like Bach, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi and Mozart.

In a supermarket in UK, reports of troublemakers and graffiti have substantially dropped after playing classical music in front of the store.

One hospital study even found that heart patients received the same anti-anxiety benefits from listening to 30 minutes of classical music as they did from taking the drug Valium.

Some surgeons also report that classical music makes for a relaxed, efficient operating room.

So far everything has been good. I've been doing this for about a week now and I can attest that the rate of lesson absorption really has increased. I would recommend this if you want to study effectively.
